I brought in my grandfather's Tissot — a manual-wind piece from the 1970s that hadn't been serviced in decades. Rizal was upfront from the start about what he found and what it would take. The watch came back running more smoothly than I had ever heard it. The written report he included was something I didn't expect but genuinely appreciated. Nothing about the process felt rushed.

I wasn't sure whether to go for the wellness check or the full service. Siti walked me through both options over email before I even came in, and Rizal's recommendation after looking at the watch made sense — the wellness check was appropriate for where my Seiko was. The crown felt crisper afterwards, and I know what to watch for before the next service. Honest and helpful.

I had my ETA 2824 movement serviced here after getting a vague diagnosis from another workshop. The difference was the depth of explanation — I actually understood what had been causing the timekeeping issues. Four stars rather than five only because the turnaround was a few days longer than I expected, but the work itself was solid. Would come back.
Stem-to-Stern Service

My father's military-issue watch from his time in the armed forces. I was nervous about entrusting it to anyone. Rizal and I spent a good hour discussing what the watch was, what it had been through, and what restoration would and wouldn't mean for it. The dossier they produced at the end — photographs of the movement before and after, notes on every decision — is something I'll keep alongside the watch.

I collect vintage Japanese movements — Citizen and Orient pieces from the 1960s and 70s. Finding someone in the Klang Valley who will service them properly rather than recommend replacement is genuinely difficult. stemwind is the first workshop where I've felt the watchmaker actually understood what I was concerned about. Two watches serviced so far, both performing well six months later.

Brought in my husband's Longines for a wellness check as a birthday surprise — wanted to know its condition before deciding whether to do more. The report was a lovely thing to present alongside the watch. It turned out the piece was in good shape overall, and Rizal explained clearly what to monitor going forward. Small details, done thoughtfully.
Winding & Wellness Check
Three Watches, Three Stories
A 1968 Omega Seamaster Manual
The watch arrived wound down, setting stiffly, and losing approximately 8 minutes per day. The owner was unsure whether it was worth restoring or how much intervention was appropriate given the watch's age and sentimental significance.
Full Stem-to-Stern service. The mainspring had lost elasticity and was replaced. The cannon pinion was worn and adjusted. The stem showed oxidation and was replaced. The keyless works were cleaned and lubricated. Regulation was achieved to within +4 seconds per day across four positions.
Watch returned keeping accurate time, winding and setting crisply. Owner received full service documentation. At six-month follow-up, the watch was still performing within acceptable range. Timeline: 12 working days.
A Malaysian Armed Forces Issue Piece
A military-issue watch from a retired officer's service years, with an engraved case back and faded dial markings that formed part of its identity. The owner wanted it running again but was concerned about losing original detail.
Provenance Restoration. Restoration plan developed collaboratively with the owner over two consultation sessions. Movement serviced with period-appropriate methods. Dial stabilised rather than replaced. Case conserved without polishing. Engraving preserved. Documented throughout.
Watch returned keeping consistent time, case and dial appearance unchanged. Full restoration dossier produced including before/after photographs of the movement. Owner reported the experience of the consultation itself was as valued as the work. Timeline: 9 weeks.
A Seiko 5 Showing Inconsistent Rate
An everyday automatic worn for seven years without servicing. The owner noticed the watch losing time inconsistently — sometimes running well, sometimes losing 20 or more seconds daily. Previous advice from a mall repair counter had been inconclusive.
Wellness Check identified degraded lubricants as the primary cause of rate inconsistency. Movement in otherwise good condition. Stem-to-Stern service recommended and approved. Movement cleaned and rebuilt. Rotor bearing checked and cleaned.
Watch returned running within +6/-4 seconds per day. Owner confirmed consistent performance over the following two months. Service record noted the movement was in excellent structural condition and would benefit from servicing every five to six years. Timeline: 11 working days.
